On August 2007, I went to Beijing for a project implementation. I stayed at China World Hotel and saw many Olympus Game members at the hotel lobby because there was an event to celebrate on-year countdown to 2008 Olympus at Tiananmen Square . However, unfortunately, I didn’t go to Tiananmen Square to celebrate it because of the workL. Next year, Olympus Game is going to start on 8 August 2008 at 8:00pm (2008080808)!
During this trip, I found two interesting things:
1) Asking the direction - If you ask Beijing people the direction, such as how to go to Tiananmen Square , they will tell you to walk toward east or west xx meters (even inside a mall). It is a bit meaningless to me because I can’t recognize the east or west direction and HK people will say “turn left or right then walk 5 or 10 minutes”. I asked my colleagues that how you can recognize the direction and tell people east or west… they asked me back that how Hong Kong people don’t know the east or west direction… shameL! She said that lots of HK colleagues asked this question…
2) Killer poker game - It was a hot game in Beijing few months ago. It is a kind of guessing game - who is the killer. There are 6 participants and one of them is killer, other 5 participants need to guess who the killer is. They can ask questions and the killer will try his/her best to defense himself/herself. Other 5 participants need to judge the answers. I’ve never heard it in Hong Kong … I could be too “out”…
At the last night in Beijing, I went to Tiananmen Square and it was my first time to go to there at night. Beijing citizens and tourists were there to enjoy the time with their friends or family. I was alone and no one (who I know and will share everything) walked together with me... Anyway, I still enjoyed seeing their faces and taking photos. However, I was also thinking that is difficult to connect that night and the night at 18 years ago. I don’t know how many Beijing citizens still remember it…or they don’t want to and only focus on 2008 Olympus Game?
